The law distinguishes between several acts, each with its own penalty: use, possession, promotion (dealing) and smuggling. For a non-Saudi, a judgment may also lead to deportation from the Kingdom after the sentence is served.<\/p>\n<h2>Treatment instead of punishment<\/h2>\n<p>The law encourages treatment. A person who comes forward for treatment on their own initiative, or at their family&#8217;s request, before being caught is treated in a special way under specific rules.
