Fighting corruption in Saudi Arabia is the task of the Oversight and Anti-Corruption Authority (Nazaha), which applies several laws, the best known being the Anti-Bribery Law.

What counts as corruption?

FormExample
BriberyAsking for or accepting money or a benefit to perform or refrain from an official act
Abuse of influenceUsing a position or connection to obtain an undue advantage
Embezzlement of public fundsUsing an entity's money for personal benefit
Abuse of authorityIssuing or delaying a decision to harm one person or favour another
Forgery of documentsAltering official documents for gain. Read forgery

Corruption is not limited to the public sector: bribery in the private sector is also a crime. Penalties depend on the offence and the law that applies; check the current official text.

Reporting corruption

  1. Gather what you have: dates, names, the entity, documents or messages, obtained lawfully.
  2. Report through Nazaha's official channels (its website, app and published lines).
  3. Follow up with the report number.

The law protects whistleblowers and witnesses from retaliation and keeps their identity confidential. A knowingly false report is itself punishable.

If you are accused

An accusation is not a conviction. You may see the charge, appoint a lawyer from the investigation stage and present evidence that negates intent or the act. Do not give statements without advice. Read the Criminal Procedure Law and the Criminal Court.
