How much is the blood money (diya) in a death or injury? The diya calculator estimates the diya in Saudi Arabia for accidental, intentional and quasi-intentional killing, and for the best-known injuries with a fixed Sharia diya such as an eye, a hand, fingers, teeth and head wounds, applying the rules on a woman’s diya.

How the calculator works

Case Full diya as applied
Accidental killing SAR 300,000
Intentional and quasi-intentional killing (when commuted to diya) SAR 400,000
Woman Half from one third upward, equal to a man below it
  • The diya for an injury is a share of the full diya: for a part of which the body has one (the nose, the tongue) the full diya is due, and for a part of which it has two (the eyes, the hands) half is due for one.
  • Each finger carries one tenth of the diya, each tooth one twentieth, a mudiha one twentieth, a hashima one tenth, a munaqqila three twentieths, and a ma’muma or ja’ifa one third.
  • Injuries with no fixed diya are assessed as “hukumat adl” by experts and the court, and the calculator does not cover them.

For the types of killing, who pays the diya and the role of insurance, read blood money in Saudi Arabia; for car accidents read car accidents and compensation and objecting to the fault percentage.

The calculator is indicative, based on the amounts applied and general fiqh rules, and the court decides each case; check the current official text.
