A guardianship deed is a court document proving that a person is the guardian of a minor (or someone in a similar position), so they can act for them with banks and government bodies and manage their property. It is usually needed after the father's death, or when a minor receives money from an inheritance or compensation.

When do you need it?

  • After the father's death, when the minor inherits a share of the estate.
  • When compensation or dues are paid in the minor's name.
  • To open an account or deal with property or shares owned by the minor.
  • For an adult who has lost legal capacity.

Steps

  1. File a request to prove guardianship electronically on Najiz with the competent Personal Status Court.
  2. Attach proof of lineage and death (if any), the heirs' inventory, and details of the minor and their property.
  3. The court considers the applicant's fitness and the minor's interest.
  4. The deed is issued with any conditions the court sets.
