The Social Insurance Law protects private-sector workers against old age, disability, death and work injuries, funded by monthly contributions from employer and employee. Many worker rights, such as the pension, proof of wage and length of service, depend directly on what was recorded with GOSI.

What does it cover?

BranchWhat it protects
PensionsRetirement pension once conditions are met; disability and death pensions
Occupational hazardsWork injuries and occupational diseases: treatment and compensation
Unemployment (SANED)Temporary compensation on job loss in covered cases

Contribution rates, retirement age and pension conditions were amended in recent years and differ by registration date; check the latest official text.

Common registration problems

  • Recorded wage lower than the real wage: reduces your pension and weakens proof of your wage. Compare GOSI records with your contract and wage protection statements.
  • Not registered, or registered late: a violation by the employer; you may ask to correct your service period.
  • Wrong start date: affects service length and the award; see Article 84 and the end-of-service award.
  • Unreported work injury: report within the set period to keep your right to treatment and compensation.

How to object to a GOSI decision

  1. Get the decision or your service statement from the official platform and identify the error precisely.
  2. Submit a correction request or objection to GOSI with documents (contract, payslips, joining letter).
  3. If rejected, the dispute goes before the committees for social insurance disputes, among the quasi-judicial committees; their decisions can be challenged as the law provides.

Disputes with the employer over wages and dues go to the labour court; see filing a labour case and the Saudi Labour Law guide.

Frequently asked questions

My employer registered me on a lower salary. Do I lose the difference?

Do not let it pass. The difference affects your pension and the proof of your wage. Gather proof of your real wage, ask for a correction, and claim the difference in any dispute.

Does social insurance replace the end-of-service award?

No. The award is a separate right against the employer under the Labour Law, and the pension is a separate right from social insurance.

I was injured at work and my employer did not report it. What should I do?

Report the injury to the institution yourself with the medical reports as soon as possible: the time limits matter.
