Worked extra hours beyond your normal schedule and want to know what you are owed? This overtime calculator works out your overtime pay under Article 107 of the Saudi Labour Law: the normal hourly wage plus 50% of the basic hourly wage. Enter your wage and the number of hours; below the calculator you will find how the calculation works, with examples.
This calculator gives an estimate. Your contract, work schedule and special rules may change the result.
How is overtime pay calculated?
Article 107 of the Labour Law requires the employer to pay the worker for overtime hours an additional wage equal to the hourly wage plus 50% of the basic wage. In practice:
- Actual hourly wage = full monthly wage ÷ 30 ÷ daily working hours.
- Premium = half the hourly wage calculated on the basic wage only.
- Overtime hourly rate = actual hourly wage + premium.
Worked examples
| Basic | Full | Daily hours | Overtime hourly rate | For 20 hours |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 6,000 | 8,000 | 8 | 33.33 + 12.50 = 45.83 | 916.67 |
| 4,000 | 4,000 | 8 | 16.67 + 8.33 = 25.00 | 500.00 |
| 10,000 | 14,000 | 8 | 58.33 + 20.83 = 79.17 | 1,583.33 |
What counts as overtime?
- Hours beyond the normal working hours set by law and in the contract.
- Work on rest days and Eid holidays is treated as overtime, as the law provides.
- The maximum normal working hours, and their reduction in Ramadan, are set by law; see the Saudi Labour Law guide and the Implementing Regulations.
Frequently asked questions
My employer does not pay overtime. What can I do?
Document the hours (attendance records, messages, work orders), then claim them through a complaint, amicable settlement and the labour court. Read filing a labour claim.
Can we agree that the salary already includes overtime?
The general rule is that overtime pay is the worker’s right for hours actually worked beyond the normal schedule. Any term that reduces the worker’s statutory rights is, as a rule, not enforceable, bearing in mind the categories of workers the law exempts from some working-hours rules.
