Before you file a claim, a legal notice (إنذار قانوني, indhar qanuni) is often the smartest step: a formal letter demanding your right from the other party and giving them a deadline, so that they pay or perform without going to court, or so that you have evidence you made a demand before litigation. Below is a general legal notice template you can copy, with guidance on when to use it and how to prove it was received.

When to send a notice

  • A tenant is late paying rent, or a landlord is late handing over or repairing the property.
  • A client or company is late paying an invoice or a contract instalment.
  • A contractor or supplier breaches their obligations or delivery dates.
  • Before terminating a contract that requires prior notice.
  • Demanding that an infringement of a trademark or other right stops.

Legal notice template (general form)

If the dispute may end up in a Saudi court, use the Arabic version: court proceedings are in Arabic, so an Arabic notice is usually the safer choice. The English version after it is a translation to help you understand and complete it.

How to prove the notice was received

MethodNotes
Registered mail to the National Address (the official registered address system)Proves sending and delivery to the registered address
Email or messages agreed in the contractStrong if the contract names them as the approved means of notice
Hand delivery with a signed receiptKeep a copy bearing the signature and date

Tips before sending

  • Check the contract first: it may set a specific notice period or method, and following it is a condition for a valid termination or claim.
  • Be specific about the amount or obligation and the deadline.
  • Do not write threats or offensive language; the notice is a document that may be submitted to the court.
  • If you hold a promissory note or a lease registered on Ejar (the official rental platform), you may be able to go straight to enforcement.

Frequently asked questions

Is a notice required before filing a claim?

It is not a general requirement, but some contracts and laws require it in certain cases, such as terminating a contract for breach. Even where it is not required, it shows good faith and your prior demand.

Can a lawyer send the notice in my name?

Yes, under a power of attorney. The notice is issued on the firm's letterhead and drafted so that a claim can be built on it if the other party does not respond.
